Oorlog kost ons de aarde. Demilitariseer Europa!

De weigering om een diplomatieke piste te openen voor de oorlog in Oekraïne zorgt ervoor dat de militarisering van Europa onrustwekkende proporties aanneemt. Het militair industrieel complex zoekt publieke steun voor stijgende militaire budgetten en overheidsfinanciering van de wapenproductie door te verwijzen naar het gevaar voor het ‘Russisch imperialisme’. In deze editie van de War & Peace café geeft Ludo De Brabander van Vrede vzw een schets van de militarisering en bespreekt hij de gevaren van de nieuwe wapenwedloop gevolgd door een discussie met het publiek over pistes om te demilitariseren. Dit War & Peace Café komt er naar aanleiding van de jaarlijkse Global Campaign against Military Spending en de publicatie van het nieuwe rapport van SIPRI over de wereldwijde militaire uitgaven.

The refusal to open a diplomatic way out for the war in Ukraine leads the militarization of Europe to alarming proportions. The military industrial complex seeks public support for increasing military budgets and public funding of arms production by citing the danger of "Russian imperialism." In this edition of the War & Peace café, Ludo De Brabander from Vrede vzw will give an overview of the militarization and the dangers of the new arms race, followed by a discussion with the public about options for demilitarization. This War & Peace Café comes in response to the annual Global Campaign against Military Spending and the publication of SIPRI's new report on global military spending.

Le refus d’ouvrir une voie diplomatique à la guerre en Ukraine fait que la militarisation de l’Europe atteint des proportions alarmantes. Le complexe militaro-industriel recherche le soutien du public pour augmenter les budgets militaires et le financement de la production d'armes en invoquant le danger de « l'impérialisme russe ». Dans cette édition du War & Peace café, Ludo De Brabander de l'asbl Vrede donne un aperçu de la militarisation et évoque les dangers de la nouvelle course aux armements, suivi d'un débat avec le public sur les options de démilitarisation. Ce War & Peace café fait suite à la Campagne mondiale contre les dépenses militaires et à la publication du nouveau rapport du SIPRI sur les dépenses militaires mondiales.
